"The word most frequently used "pæderasty" (παιδεραστία), comes from παις (boy) and εραν (to love), and consequently denotes the spiritual and sensual affection for a boy, though it should be noted, as will be later more fully shown, that the word 'boy' is not to be understood offhand in the modern colloquial sense. In the Greek language the word 'pæderasty' had not this ugly sound it has for us today, since it was regarded simply as an expression for one variety of love, and had no sort of defamatory meaning to it." opening paragraph, "Terminology" p413 - some diacritics missing from Greek Secondhand booksellers |
