Aubrey Beardsley


Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (21 August 1872 - 16 March 1898) was an English illustrator and author. His drawings, executed in black ink and influenced by the style of Japanese woodcuts, emphasized the grotesque, the decadent, and the erotic.

Aubrey Beardsley
There is no evidence that Beardsley was gay. He was, however, closely associated with Oscar Wilde and other aesthetes, illustrating their work. Although best known for his drawings, which frequently had an often exaggerated sexual element, he also wrote, but did not finish, a - heterosexually - erotic story, Under the Hill.
