White: The Homosexual Condition

Content:

"The conspiracy of silence surrounding this subject has been broken but there is a danger that this silence will be replaced by well-intentioned but ill-informed discussion. To help to prevent this is one of the reasons for the publication of this booklet.

"Dr White over the years has treated many homosexuals; some have consulted him voluntarily; others have been referred to him by the Courts; some have seen him on the advice of friends. He has examined in great detail fifty of his patients and his observations are recorded in this booklet.

"But to his skill and knowledge as a psychiatrist Dr White brings the love and compassion of the Christian. All who seek to understand this problem will be grateful to him for his Report."

"Homosexuality is a form of deviation characterised by attraction of a man or woman to members of the same sex, accompanied by sexual desire. Although in most instances this attraction gives rise to sexual relationship with other members of the same sex, there are some cases where no actual sexual practices have been indulged in, there are a few individuals who are able to suppress their desires sufficiently to prevent such indulgences. These individuals I describe as mental homosexuals, to distinguish them from practising homosexuals."
