"Being gay and a police officer. Can you be both? Not many members of the public ever think of gay police officers. I am gay and was twenty-one when I joined the Metropolitan Police. I've been a police officer for the past five years and have worked in Hackney, East London, since leaving training school. When I joined the police I knew I was gay - I've been gay ever since I can remember and I've never had any relationships with women. I know of offiers who have gotten (sic) married in order to conceal their sexuality or because they were gay but denied it to themselves. I on't believe in covering my sexuality like that. I am happy with my sexuality, I have never had any problems with it and I feel sorry for people who can't accept that they are gay, be they police officers or anyone else."
