Non-Fiction of Gay Interest
Content: "In Which Way Out of the Men's Room? Gordon Johnston breaks away from this traditional framework and constructs a fresh and revealing approach to the examination of the homosexual / heterosexual interrelationship. "Unlike recent writers on homosexuality, Johnston is not concerned about whether homosexuality is on the increase or decrease, or what psychosocial categories are devised for the homosexual. Instead he concentrates on alternatives for the homosexual such as how to achieve more enduring relationships. He also poses the question, 'Is there a sexual ethic among homosexuals? - or among people in general?" (from the jacket) Background / Biography: "Gordon Johnston was born in Seattle, Washington in 1941. After majoring in theology for four years, Mr Johnston suspended the ambition to become a minister when he discovered his homosexual orientation. He then received a degree in English literature from the University of Washington and earned his teaching certificate. For the past eight years the author taught American Literature in Bellevue, Washington, and he is currently working toward a PhD in Educational Communications at the University of Washington while continuing his career as a writer and photographer. Since his discovery of his homosexuality, Mr Johnston appraised his goals and personal values and decided to integrate his experiences with the literature and social life of the homosexual milieu. The result was this fine literary work." (from the jacket) Reviews: |
"The men's room mentality views the world as the natural setting for man's erotic domination. The masculine concern is to extend man into the social divisions of space, identify such divisions of territory and then occupy them to his unique advantage. Territories are assigned in a hierarchy of values. Each value is attached to current agreements of what is masculine. Masculinity factors are derived from any definition or expression which supports the social mythologies of male sexual superiority." opening paragraph Secondhand booksellers |
